Contra Costa Women’s Hall of Fame HistoryThe Board of Supervisors established the Contra Costa Women’s Hall of Fame in October 1997, under the sponsorship of Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier and the Women’s Advisory Committee, now known as the Contra Costa Commission for Women.The Women’s Hall of Fame acknowledges those exceptional, multifaceted women who have enhanced life in Contra Costa County through their careers and volunteer activities. The honorees have made a difference through their efforts towards equity, innovation, service or achievement in commerce or community outreach. This biannual event is held in March to coincide with celebrating Women’s History Month. Nominations are open to anyone who resides or works in Contra Costa County. Nominees must be women who live or work in Contra Costa County, or have played an integral part in the development and/or implementation of project(s) that have benefited Contra Costa County. Members of the Contra Costa Commission for Women and the Board of Supervisors are not eligible for nomination.
The Nomination Process
Women’s Hall of Fame Nominations are solicited by the Contra Costa Commission for Women. The nominations are then mailed to the Contra Costa Commission for Women for their review. The nominations are reviewed by selected judges.The judges must reside outside Contra Costa County, and they should not know the nominees.Each question on the nomination form is graded on a 1-10 point system.
The judge’s scores are totaled and the nominee(s) with the highest score in each category is/are selected as the honoree(s).

Women Creating Community
Contributing to the quality of life in Contra Costa by supporting the personal and social growth of others
Women Working for Justice
Striving for equality and peace
Women Preserving the Environment
Actively working to protect natural resources
Women Improving Health Care
Educating, conducting research, or providing health care
Women Contributing to the Arts
Promoting the expression of the performing arts, visual arts, and literary arts
Women Innovating in Science/Technology
Educating, inventing, or developing technology
