Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services
http://mowsos.org/services/meals-on-wheels/“Meals On Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals primarily to frail, homebound persons over the age of 60 who are unable to cook or shop for themselves since 1968. Our clients benefit from daily health and wellness checks and ongoing client monitoring, including in-home visits by outreach workers. We deliver more than 230,000 meals within our community each year to our clients. Our program allows them to remain in their home and maintain their independence as long as possible. For many of our clients, the hot meal they receive may be the only meal they have for that day. Meals are delivered by volunteer drivers and there is always a need for more volunteers. Please contact Sharon Fitzgerald at [email protected] or 925-937-8607 for more information or to become a volunteer.”

Friendly Visitors Program

http://mowsos.org/services/friendly-visitors/
“Did you know that loneliness and isolation can impact nutrition, independence, and over-all health, and can actually speed up the aging process? The Friendly Visitors Program was created to support the aging community and provide much-needed companionship in the form of one-hour weekly in-home visits. Friendly Visitors are volunteers from the community who are dependable, caring, and have a positive, happy outlook. They are screened, interviewed, and then matched with seniors who share similar interests. The Friendly Visitors Program is operated through Meals on Wheels by Senior Outreach Services, a private, non-profit agency that has supported seniors in Contra Costa County since 1968. To learn more about the Friendly Visitors Program or to become a volunteer, please contact Susannah Meyer at [email protected], (925) 937-8311 ext. 130, or visit our website at http://www.mowsos.org

Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa County, Inc.

www.mealsonwheelsofcontracosta.org
Founded in 1990, Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa is a coalition of all the public and non-profit agencies, and senior citizen advisory groups involved in providing Meals on Wheels services to frail homebound elders in our county. We are the only agency in our county raising funds to provide the meals delivered to homebound elders served by the countywide Meals on Wheels Program. We are committed to reducing the isolation experienced by so many elderly. Meals are delivered to seniors’ homes by volunteers. Frequently the volunteer may be the only person the senior sees all day, providing human contact and a safety net, particularly for those seniors living alone.
